ABOUT US
-
Over the past five years, Dance Aid events have raised over £350,000 and been held in top London venues such as Scala, SeOne, Ministry of Sound and most recently Pacha London. Boosted by the innovative use of the UK Press, social networks and internet campaigns via the boys very own Dance Aid TV and with the help of the general public the event has now become a huge success.
These boys are no ordinary fundraisers, they give 100% dedication, with every single penny raised going to the NSPCC, BHF, Great Ormond Street and Action for Children. Using their silver-tongued charm and friends in the industry, the DJ's have managed to convince Celebs, World-Class DJ's and Management behind some of the World’s best acts and venues to offer their services for free.
In 2007 they were awarded with the Gold Heart Award from BHF, in 2008 they won the Our Hero Award from the South London Press and in 2009 they were awarded £1000 from Barclays Bank Let’s Do It Campaign to launch the Dance Academy a pilot scheme which took place in 2009 at Crystal Palace FC, the scheme a 6 week course providing young people a chance to mix and produce there own music using modern IT techniques helping those attending to build up confidence and teach team skills in rich entertaining environment.
Since then they have opened two more courses at MillWall and West ham and have started outreach works with KICKS, a football foundation program and AFFINITY SUTTON a social housing association and have recently found themselves as the new Ambassadors for Families united bringing something both interesting and unique to the government initiative Count Me In.
The courses the team offer will let children from the communities they run the course in benefit from the chance of learning new skills though Music, Art and Dance and best of all they are all completely free, funded by Dance Aid themselves and associates. The course has proven to enhance Literacy, Numeracy and ICT skills as well as the children’s ability to communicate and work as team, greater self regard and confidence in general;early studies show that a response to curriculum and attitude towards staff & other students have changed with a minimum increase of 20% in all cases for those who participated.
The most recent addition to the team Hollywood actor Tamer Hassan, after hearing what they were about and where they were going, Tamer joined forces with Wayne and Mete in early 2009 with the aim to drive Dance Aid forward to its next challenge, raising both media and public interest. Currently the trio are working with new projects to reach outwork posts and various other youth entity’s ensuring all those in London can have access to their classes.
Having set their goals they now needed the tools to put them within reach and to do this they have recently teamed up with TEACH MIX, a handy guide that teaches its users how to control and manipulate decks as well as assisting with correct timing and cuing tracks to ensure smoother introduction into mixing using this new software saving time and making mixing easier for all those involved.
Their latest endeavour has been to team up with the numerous charities they support and organise raves to raise money for NSPCC, BHF, Great Ormond Street and Action for Children for a UK club tour details of which can be found by following the links below….
